Cosy Autumn Crafting: 3 Ideas to Inspire Your Seasonal Creativity

There’s something about autumn that makes slowing down and getting creative feel even more inviting. As the evenings draw in, the leaves begin to change and the weather turns cooler, sitting down with your favourite craft supplies can become one of the nicest ways to spend an evening.

Picture a warm drink beside you, something comforting playing in the background and a table scattered with papers, stickers, tapes and all those little pieces of ephemera you’ve been saving for the perfect page. Autumn crafting doesn’t need to be complicated or carefully planned. Sometimes, the best creative journal and scrapbook pages come from simply sitting down, switching off from the day and seeing where your creativity takes you.

Whether you’re filling a scrapbook, working in a creative journal or simply looking for an excuse to use some of your favourite autumnal supplies, here are three ideas to inspire your next cosy craft session.

1. Capture the Colours of Autumn

Autumn gives us one of the most beautiful colour palettes of the year. Burnt orange, deep brown, golden yellow, muted green, warm cream and touches of burgundy can instantly give a page that cosy seasonal feeling.

Try choosing three or four colours before you begin and build your page around them. Layer patterned papers with torn edges, add botanical stickers or PET tape and finish with small details such as labels, stamps or handwritten notes.

You don’t have to stick to traditional orange and brown either. Soft beige, dusty blue, sage green and faded neutral tones can create a subtler autumn look while still feeling wonderfully seasonal.

Creative tip: Gather your chosen supplies together before you start. Having a small selection in front of you can make it easier to begin without feeling overwhelmed by choice.

2. Create an Autumn Memories Page

Your journal doesn’t have to document a big event. Some of the most meaningful pages celebrate the small, everyday moments that make a season special.

Think about what autumn means to you. It could be your first hot chocolate of the season, a woodland walk, a rainy Sunday at home, a favourite jumper coming back out of the wardrobe or an afternoon spent browsing a bookshop.

Add a photograph, ticket, receipt or little piece of memorabilia if you have one, then build your page around that memory. Alternatively, write a short list of the things you’re enjoying about the season and decorate around your words.

Try adding dates and small handwritten notes too. When you look back through your journal in years to come, these tiny details can transport you straight back to that moment.

3. Embrace a Cosy Cottage Theme

For a page that feels like autumn in scrapbook form, create your own cosy cottage-inspired spread.

Think warm interiors, cups of tea, books, fireplaces, knitted textures, rainy windows, woodland animals and autumn leaves. Layer deeper earthy colours with cream papers and vintage-style pieces to give your page warmth and depth.

You could even create a little imaginary autumn scene rather than documenting real life. Journaling is a space where creativity doesn’t need rules — your page can simply capture a feeling.

Creative tip: Try layering your materials rather than placing everything separately. Tear papers, overlap stickers, tuck small pieces behind larger elements and allow designs to run slightly off the edge of the page. It can help everything feel more natural and connected.

Make an Evening of It

Perhaps the best part of autumn crafting isn’t the finished page at all — it’s the time spent creating it.

Put your phone to one side, make your favourite warm drink, find something cosy to watch or listen to and give yourself an evening without worrying about whether your page is “good enough”. There’s no need to rush and no need to create something perfect.

Creative journaling and scrapbooking are about enjoying the process, experimenting with the supplies you love and creating something that feels completely your own.

So, as the darker evenings arrive, pull out your journal, gather those autumn papers and stickers you’ve been waiting to use and settle in for a cosy evening of creativity.

You never know where the first torn piece of paper might take you. 🍂
